Up In The Air Playlist

This weekend I watched a little TV (no, I didn't aquire one, I was at boyfriend's house) and caught a few movie trailers as a result. One was for "Up In The Air" starring George Clooney and Ryan Bingham. He's a guy who's job requires him to live out of a suitcase and then BAM his job changes and he's a grounded person.

As a little Monday morning activity, I've created what I think is a good "up in the air" playlist. [cut=Let's do this...]

LAX to O'Hare - The Academy Is

I Must Belong Somewhere - Bright Eyes

Shores of California - The Dresden Dolls

Holiday From Real - Jack's Mannequin

Such Great Heights - The Postal Service

No One Can Touch Us - Sing It Loud

Light Up The Sky - Yellowcard

Sophmore Slump or Comeback of the Year - Fall Out Boy

Wish You Were Here - Incubus

Ocean and Atlantic - Mayday Parade

What would you put on an "In The Air" playlist?

Sounds Of Buzz and Sims Present Forever The Sickest Kids

Just got home from the sweet little party / performance at the Playhouse in Hollywood. Forever The Sickest Kids were the night's reigning kings, fresh off their headlining Cheap Date tour with Artist vs. Poet. [cut=Read more...]

Anyway, backtrack. I got there before the band rolled up and watched some people plays the Sims 3 game. Mark created the Jonas Brothers sims. Necessary.

The meet and greet winners were ushered in first and shortly after, those colorful Texans came up and turned on the charm. There was lots of posing, plenty of photobooth antics... and Selena Gomez. And guys from The Cab. And Semi-Precious Weapons. See:

Jeffree Star and Jac Vanek arrived a bit before the performance.

We hit the floor when FTSK started playing, and it was so strange/AWESOME that we could just squeeze through to the front and not have to risk our lives elbowing through a pack of wriggling, sardine-packed fans.

They played:

Believe Me, I'm Lying

Catastrophe

Hey Brittany

She Likes

My Worst Nightmare

Hip Hop Chick (ps. Jonathan wants you to write hip hop on your fingers making a peace sign and twitpic it to them)

The Way She Moves

Breakdown

She's a Lady

What Do You Want From Me

Whoa Oh (Me vs. Everyone)

They have an insane amount of energy and I think the only band better at making funny facial expressions is Gym Class Heroes. After their set they helped raffle off some Sims games and then went to go hang out in the crowd.

And that's when Kayla and I met Ok Go.

Yeah, we flipped out a little. We got to talk to Dan first, then Tim and Andy and--after some nerve-gathering and deep breaths--Damian. Pics were taken. Knees were jello. Mouths were dry with nervousness. But, ohmygod, it was phenomenal.

But, the night wasn't over yet:

Kayla and I made one more venue sweep to check for famous people we wanted to take pictures with (alright, we we're looking for Ok Go again). Upstairs, by the bar, people were snapping pics of themsleves with cutouts of characters from the World Adventures special package, including a chick on a Vespa.

Pictures will be up in 12 hours or less!

If you went, we hope you had tons of fun :)

It's our job to be on the internet all day, the least we can do is share its treasures with you, right? Yes, your friendly Buzz Guides will sift through news, gossip, memes and whatever else is floating around out there and pluck from the chaos the stuff that hooks us. This week, Breesays is up with her second entry in the series. Bring it.

MUSIC

30 Seconds to Mars “This is War”

If you saw me at a 30 Seconds to Mars show, I would be one of those people who sways and mumbles along with the music, with an occasional enunciated “youuuu” (fist in air). I'm not a member of the Echelon, I don't even have them listed as one of my favorite bands on Facebook—but the band's third studio album is streaming online and you know, I could get into this one.

Listen to the stream here and if you dig it, you can have it in your hot little hands on December 8th.

BOOK

Let The Great World Spin by Colum McCann

As the year comes to an end, this title by Colum McCann keeps popping up on Best of '09 lists. All I've read so far is the introduction, but that alone is pretty captivating.

Those who saw him hushed. On Church Street. Liberty. Cortlandt. West Street. Fulton. Vesey. It was a silence that heard itself, awful and beautiful. Some thought at first that it must have been a trick of the light, something to do with the weather, an accident of shadowfall. Others figured it might be the perfect city joke-stand around and point upward, until people gathered, tilted their heads, nodded, affirmed, until all were staring upward at nothing at all, like waiting for the end of a Lenny Bruce gag. But the longer they watched, the surer they were. He stood at the very edge of the building, shaped dark against the gray of the morning. A window washer maybe. Or a construction worker. Or a jumper.

Up there, at the height of a hundred and ten stories, utterly still, a dark toy against the cloudy sky.

Read a full excerpt via Oprah.com or check out the reviews on Amazon

TV

James Franco as “Franco” on General Hospital.

Golden-ratio-face is in the middle of a two-month story arc on a soap opera that has been around since dawn of man.

The plusses: Soap operas are on like, 5 days a week. With the proper technology (tiVo) or nothing to do in the early afternoon time slot, you could watch him almost every day! Huzzah.

Minuses: Well, for one, who watches Soap Operas? Not even your mom is that uncool. Furthermore, for a brief stretch of misguided youth in which I DID watch a soap (Sunset Beach. Totally cancelled now, but had Eddie Cibirian in it, which was reason enough for me) they wore the same outfit for like a MONTH. The storylines are usually so painfully slow. Like, slower than a football game slow.

BUT again, this:

BOY

Taylor Lautner

And the crowd goes wild!

Yes, I get that this is a rather predictable choice, but I don't think T-Laut has gotten as much love (or even attention, really) as RPattz has on this site. JACOB BLACK PICSPAM, GO!

INTERNET

How cute is this printable poster?

This dainty blogger was linked on Galadarling and now I like to check it every couple days. It's a mish-mosh of style, art, fashion and more in a well designed package.

And that's it for this week. Until next time, lovelies

Who has been keeping pace with the Upper East Siders of Gossip Girl this season? Still love the music they use for the show? There's a rumor afoot that the music is causing a bit of tension between two cast members. Mmmhmm. [cut=Read more...]

Leighton Meester has been successfully slinking her way into the mainstream pop scene, and both "Somebody to Love" and "Good Girls Go Bad" (Cobra Starship's song for which she provides guest vocals) have gotten some play on this season's GG.

It's just that little Jenny Humphrey Taylor Momsen has a band, too. Pretty Reckless. And no one's asked for her tunes. And she's feeling shafted.

Her band sounds like this:

Do you think her rough-around-the-edges rock would fit in with the show?

Is Leighton's style just better suited for the show, or is someone making up excuses?

Yesterday my best friend and I got to go to a screening of Disney's brand new animated film The Princess and the Frog. But this wasn't just any screening--it was a full on "Disney Experience" on the Disney Lot in Burbank. We got there about 45 minutes early and followed the frog steps through the lot, with the aide of very helpful PATF staff. There was a photo station before entering the theater, but we weren't about to bump any toddlers out to get a shot. [cut=Read more...]

Then Mickey shows up. WHAT!? I know, I know. I'm an adult woman, I know there's just a person inside that costume--BUT, as a girl who grew up a few miles away from the Magic Kingdom, let me tell you about something that happened in 1993. Mickey's Toontown. Before Mickey and Minnie had established plastic homes, one felt giddy at the prospect of a chance encouter with the mouse. Now, you had to wait in line, tour the mouse house, keep it quick. I'm not one to protest order, but the spontaneity of the situation added a bit of glee, know what I mean? Therefore, I was elated that Mickey just showed up to this event. Just happened by. Don't you understand that the Mouse is a celebrity? He has scheduled appearances and handlers. Better recognize.

Anyway. So we take out seats at this grand theater, while an organ player (oh God, I just typed 'organ donor', what's wrong with me?) piped out tune after Disney tune. We watch all the mini-princesses file in and squeeze past us in their poofy Belle/Cinderella/Tinkerbell getups.

And then it begins.

It's kind of a big deal for Disney to introduce a new princess. The story, of course, comes from Grimm brothers' fairy tale, but as it usually goes, I'm not too familiar with things until Disney jazzes it up. And the did literally jazz it up this time--it's set in the French Quarter of New Orleans. There's music, voodoo, morals, magic, and a hot prince. You know, when he's not a frog. I think it's the hazel eyes that do it for me. Unfortunately, much like in Beauty and the Beast, the hot guy doesn't spend most of the movie in true form.

The BEST character is a lovestruck cajun firefly named Ray who shouts, "DON'T MAKE ME LIGHT MY BUTT!" before taking on evildoers.

It's hard to say just how fast Tiana's tale will assimilate into the whole Disney classic family, but it undoubtedly will. As far as comparison to other Disney princess flicks, Tiana is still a Daddy's girl but she has a very supportive mom of the non-step variety. And a lot of food. Tiana is a waitress who dreams of opening her own restuarant, see. Even though this one sings a lot about how hard work can acheive your dreams, she isn't the only princess to work her tail off (A-hem, Cinderella) and yet maintain unmatchable optimism.

The movie gets wide release on December 11th and yes, I totally think you should go see it.

Now, onto what happened after the movie.

We were led to a showroom filled with waving, sparkling, magical DISNEY PRINCESSES. All of them.

Hey gurl, let's be friends so I can hang out in your library.

It's mildly awkward because Annette and I arrived at the showroom well before the stampede of little girls, and although, again, I know they're hired guns I was still like WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?

We browsed the display cases, eyed the elegant cupcakes for sale and played a few games:

Then we took a picture "with" Louis the Crocodile:

As we were sauntering out, I saw that Aurora didn't have a line and I was like, I NEED A PICTURE WITH HER. So I ask her if I can high five and she says, "We can do a princess high five!" and so we sorta do sorta don't (I'll show you the pic later) and then she says, "Thank you, princess!" as I leave. i'm giddy. What am I, 6 years old?

The whole experience was very special, I was completely enchanted with it all.

Tell me what you think of it when you go see it!

Moustachette: A Review. Sort Of.

What can one say about a movie that's 16 minutes long, especially when the film festival staff let everyone in 5 minutes after they've started playing said movie? [cut=I'm gonna give it a shot, anyway...]

For those of you not in the know, Moustachette is a short film from the mind of Patrick Stump, the priceless melody-maker and singer for Fall Out Boy. In addition to directing, P. Sassy plays Eugene Arlington, an amicable fellow on a quest to develop a backbone. Sort of. Ryan Key (Yellowcard, Big If) plays Casper Amity, self-aggrandizing artist who dresses like a cross between popcore dork and crunkcore poser (plz see Yourscenesucks.com).

A lot of the movie is dialogue between Casper and Eugene, a dichotomy between the entitled and the polite. Fall Out poster Boy Pete Wentz plays a small role, but gets to take a swing at Key for having eye-sex with his girlfriend. I really don't want to say much else, should you want to experience it fresh when it comes to an indie theater (or perhaps iTunes) near you.

In place of a play-by-play, I was going to interview Ryan about his role as Casper and what it was like to be directed by Patrick-it's just that he's either crafting painstakingly eloquent answers or giving me the passive-aggressive brush-off. Should the answers ever return to my inbox, I will post them, though. Promise.

A little bird with blue hair recently received a letter of correspondence from Mr. Stump after the bird blogged a review that stated she was less than impressed with the outcome of Moustachette. P. Sassy reportedly responded that he wasn't pleased with how it turned out, either.

At the time I requested an interview with Key, he hadn't seen the movie either, so I suppose I'll just let it go. But I really wanted to talk about his wardrobe:

As for me? A 16-minute movie is an ideal investment for my attention span, especially paired with familiar faces, so I can't honestly say my opinion is unbiased. Is it aesthetically pleasing? Totally. I feel like it took a hint from the Speed Racer (the '08 movie version), which was a colorful feast of a flick. (I realize I'm nearing the too-much mark for alliteration, but this review is almost over, I swear).

Was it inspiring? Not really. But I think the people going to see this because of Patrick have already bought stock in his talent, and this little foray into a different artistic medium isn't really going to change fan opinion.

Did it stir up a curious craving for a blueberry shake? Well, yes-and I've never even had a blueberry shake. And who knows, maybe that was the whole point.

"This Is Real Life" is a non-fiction compilation of photos, tour diary entries and fanart from the band's stint on Warped Tour 2009. [cut=Get into it...]

Buzznet got the chance to have a quick chat with Kennedy Brock about this little masterpiece.

Buzznet: Did you guys know before you went on Warped Tour that this book was
going to be created? Or do you all just keep tour journals anyway?

Kennedy Brock: We had talked about making the book before Warped Tour, We basically
had an idea for what it was going to be, but since then it really has
turned into an awesome project. We all knew we were going to keep
journals we just didnt decide on how they would be compiled together
until later.

Buzznet: Was it hard to pick with fan artwork/letters went into the book? How
DID you decide?

KB: It was really difficult, we tried to put in as many things as we
could, and stopped when we ran out of room, so there was not any
judging involved.

Buzznet: If you could encourage another band to make a book like this, who
would you choose?

KB: Good Charlotte

Buzznet: Does flipping through the finished product make you miss warped tour
at all? If so what part of Warped Tour?

KB: It definitely does, It makes me relive the craziness of the tour. It
reminds me most of the feeling any tour gives me, accomplishment.

Buzznet: if each member of your band were to write their own books, what
would each member write about? What would YOU write about?

KB: I'm not sure what the books would be about, possibly there would be a
picture book, a zombie book, a self help book, a cooking book, and I
would like to write a mystery.

Buzznet: If you were to have your own book, what would the title be and in
what city would you do your book signing?

KB: It would be called "Your Alive, Act Like It" and i would do my signing in Tempe.

Buzznet: Who is getting this book as a Christmas gift this year?

KB: My Cousin Michael Pablo, age 15, from San Fran.
